Reef Clean Up in Dahab

We should all be very thankful to anyone who gives up their “holiday” to clean up dive sites in the Red Sea. I always ask myself the same question – is the rubbish they find a result of tourism or is it dumped by locals?

Last month a team of freedivers and scubadivers collected “tonnes” of rubbish from the world famous Blue Hole and nearby coastlines in an attempt to cleam the reefs up. Similar weeks have been taken place around the shores of the Red Sea and the result is always the same – huge amounts of rubbish.

Is the rubbish dumped from local dives boats and liveaboards that operate in the Red Sea?

We all have a responsibility to be enviromentally aware on our diving holidays and keep destinations like Dahab in pristine condition so the next generation of diver can experience what we enjoy today.
