Sun, Snorkelling and Seafood in Sharm El Sheikh

This summer I spent a fabulous week in Egypt. My friends and I wanted a sun holiday away from the crowded shores of the Mediterranean however weren’t keen on dealing with jet lag either.

As part of our group had recently acquired their PADI certificates we settled on the Red Sea for a week of well earned rest and relaxation. Sharm El Sheikh was a new experience to us all and we were delightfully surprised on our arrival.

Our days were spent soaking up the sun on the beach or on one of the many snorkelling and diving trips arranged by the hotel. We took a boat trip to Ras Mohammed marine national park which included three stop-offs for snorkelling, lunch and refreshments.

We also took a trip to Tiran Island where I spent another day snorkelling whilst my friends went diving. All of the guides and instructors were so friendly and knowledgeable, very happy to regale stories of encounters with the underwater world!

Snorkelling on these trips was definitely a highlight of my trip and I would encourage all visitors, whatever their swimming competency, to book themselves on one of the trips.

In the evenings my friends and I ventured in to Naama Bay, where we found a number of great local restaurants (if you’re a fan of seafood you will love it) and bars - the Camel Bar in particular stands out in my mind, with a fantastic roof terrace bar where you can sit back, relax with a cocktail and listen to the sounds of the DJ over the bustling streets below.

Throughout the week we met so many friendly locals and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Naama Bay and the untouched beauty of the Red Sea coastline. This is the perfect beach holiday for those seeking something a little different.
